Abstract
Background: The obesity was recognized the one of chronic inflammtory diseases and known as relating to the
serum hypomagnesemia. But the above 99% of total magnesium exist in intracelluar area, serum extracelluar magnesium
is not a accurate method. In Healthy Women, So we studied the association the magnesium with obesity related variables using hair tissue mineral analysis which has collecting convinience and ability to evaluate status of magnesium in intracellular area.

Methods: 150 women (BMI ¡Ã25 kg/m2), aged 15 ~ 65ys and 115 age-matched control subjects (18.5 BMI ¡Â <23
kg/m2)were examined. All women were sedentary (< 1 hr/-wk of physical activity0), non- smoker and were excluded if they had hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease or acute inflammatory disease. They were underwent metabolic variables and percent body fat. Hairs were collected in occipital scalp area without permanent and dyeing, analysed mineral status in TEI, America. Then we studies the association the hair tissue magnesium level with obesity related variables in study group.

Results: there was no statistical difference in hair tissue magnesium in two groups. Also there was no statistical
association (r = -0.265, P= 0.527) of hair tissue magnesium level with the Obese women. Other variables (cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglyceride, percent body fat) show no association with hair tissue magnesium level. In our obese subjects, Age was independently a significant predictor (¥â= 0.571, P= 0.033) of Hair tissue magnesium level Adjusted-R2=0.27).

Conclusion: In our study, Hair tissue magnesium level does not have any association with obesity. But more
prospective study including accurate body magnesium level would be needed.
